The DEVIL'S COLUMN This monument is a Roman column erected in the square of the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio with two circular holes that perpetually emanates a strong smell of sulfur.
According to legend, the square was a place of confrontation between the devil and Ambrose . The holy pushed against the Satan the column and these remained stuck until the next day with horns, thus producing the two holes. Only the Devil
barely managed to free himself and escape. According to tradition, putting their fingers in the holes will attract good fortune, but by receiving the ear can also hear noises coming from hell and some say they feel even the smell of sulfur.
